2027: Itsekiri Youths Excited Over Collins Edema’s Response to Join Delta South Senate Race
The Itsekiri Youths for Good Governance (IYGG) have expressed appreciation to Collins Edema for his response to calls urging him to contest the Delta South Senatorial seat, stating that his position reflects openness to future political consideration.
In a statement signed by its Delta South Coordinator, Sam Oki Metsh, and Secretary, Omatsuli George, the group commended Edema’s “statesmanship, humility, and unwavering sense of duty,” describing him as a leader with the qualities needed for effective representation.
The group noted that their appeal for Edema to contest the 2027 senatorial election was borne out of a desire for purposeful and visionary leadership in Delta South.
They also acknowledged his current role as Sole Representative of His Royal Majesty, Ogiame Atuwatse III, the Olu of Warri, to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and its Joint Venture partners, stating that they respect his ongoing responsibilities.
According to the group, their call is not intended to distract him from his present assignment but reflects their confidence in his leadership capacity.
The group referenced Edema’s earlier statement that he had not taken any decision regarding the 2027 general elections, describing it as a sign of hope.
“As of today, I have not taken any decision regarding contesting in the 2027 general elections,” Edema had stated.
IYGG said the remark reassures supporters that the possibility of his candidacy remains open, urging him to consider their appeal.
Commendation for Political Alignment
The youth group also praised Edema’s political engagements, particularly his support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
They described this as a demonstration of loyalty, strategic thinking, and commitment to political stability.
While urging Edema to continue consultations, the group emphasized the growing expectations of the people of Delta South for credible leadership.
They further called on his associates and business partners to encourage him to consider contesting the senatorial seat.
“As you embark on consultations, it is our hope that Delta South remains central in your discussions and decisions,” the statement added.
The group assured Edema of its continued support, regardless of his final decision, reiterating its commitment to the unity, progress, and development of Delta South.
