Guwor to Hold Special Session with Past, Present Lawmakers
The Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, has announced plans for a special session that will bring together current lawmakers and former members of the State Assembly, known as Non-Sitting Members of the House.
The event, which is scheduled to hold from Wednesday, November 12 to Friday, November 14, 2025, in Asaba, aims to strengthen collaboration, share experiences, and explore innovative strategies to enhance legislative efficiency and governance in Delta State.
Rt Hon Guwor made the announcement during Tuesday’s plenary, describing the initiative as an opportunity to leverage the experience and institutional memory of past legislators for the progress of the state.
Expected dignitaries include the State Governor and former Speaker, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, and other former Speakers such as Rt Hon Emmanuel Okoro, Rt Hon Kent Omatsone, Rt Hon Martins Okonta, Rt Hon Victor Ochei, Rt Hon Monday Igbuya, Rt Hon Basil Ganagana, Rt Hon Frank Enekorogha, Rt Hon Peter Onwusanya, and Rt Hon Olise Imegwu.
To ensure smooth organization, the Speaker announced a five-man planning committee headed by the Deputy Speaker, Rt Hon Arthur Akpowowo. Other members include Hon Austin Uroye, Perkins Umukoro, Festus Utuama, and Bridget Anyafulu, while Deputy Clerk (Administration), Mr Smart Edoge, will serve as the committee’s secretary.
Reacting to the development, the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Mr Nkem Nwaeke, described the initiative as both innovative and unprecedented, noting that it reflects the Speaker’s dedication to building an inclusive and forward-thinking legislature.
“The Speaker’s visionary leadership is evident in initiating this special session with former members of the House. This gesture underscores his commitment to fostering a collaborative and inclusive legislative environment,” Nwaeke said.
He added that the special session aims to harness the wealth of knowledge and experience of former lawmakers to guide present and future legislative efforts.
“Mr Speaker has always demonstrated his commitment and dedication to bridging the gap between all stakeholders in the state legislature, ensuring continuity and progress in governance. It is anticipated that this collaboration with former members will yield innovative ideas, informed policy decisions, and ultimately, contribute to the socio-economic growth and prosperity of Delta State,” the CPS stressed.
According to Nwaeke, the initiative is expected to strengthen the legislative arm of government, improve governance, and foster peace, unity, and development across Delta State.
