FG Declares May 1 Public Holiday for Workers’ Day
The Federal Government has declared May 1, 2026, a public holiday to mark this year’s International Workers Day.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Magdalene Ajani.
The minister congratulated Nigerian workers for their contributions to national development, acknowledging their role in driving the country’s growth.
He urged workers to remain committed to productivity, patriotism, and dedication to duty.
Tunji-Ojo also reassured citizens of the government’s commitment to improving workers’ welfare and creating an enabling environment for economic growth.
He further called on Nigerians to remain peaceful and law-abiding, while reflecting on unity and hard work as essential pillars for nation-building.
Workers’ Day, celebrated annually on May 1, honours the contributions of workers and the labour movement worldwide.
