Diddy Escapes Life Sentence but Found Guilty in Sex Crime Case

Music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs has been found not guilty of racketeering and sex trafficking charges but was convicted on two lesser counts, including transportation to engage in prostitution, after a nearly two-month federal trial in New York City.

The verdict was delivered by a panel of 12 jurors, who deliberated for 13 hours before reaching a decision on five charges brought against the 54-year-old entrepreneur. Prosecutors had alleged that Combs used his wealth, fame, and business network to operate a criminal enterprise that trafficked women and silenced victims.

Combs, who had admitted to domestic violence, denied all allegations of non-consensual sexual activity and rejected claims of running a racketeering operation.

The jury’s verdict came after they informed the court on Tuesday that they had reached consensus on the sex trafficking and prostitution-related charges, but remained deadlocked on the racketeering count—the most severe and legally complex of the five charges.

They told the court they held “unpersuadable” opinions on both sides regarding the racketeering charge, which ultimately resulted in Combs’ acquittal on that count.

Over the course of the seven-week trial, prosecutors called more than 30 witnesses, including Combs’ ex-girlfriend and musician Casandra Ventura, rapper Kid Cudi, former employees, and hotel security staff.

Prosecutors accused Combs of orchestrating so-called “freak-offs”—allegedly coercing his partners to engage in sex with male escorts while he watched and recorded. They claimed he depended on a loyal inner circle to maintain control and secrecy.

Central to the case was surveillance footage from 2016, showing Combs beating and dragging Ventura in a Los Angeles hotel hallway. Hotel staff testified that Combs later offered bribes to erase the footage.

Ventura, who testified while eight months pregnant, told the court Combs pressured her into the sex acts and threatened to release videos if she disobeyed him.

Combs’ legal team admitted to his violent behavior, arguing that it was driven by jealousy and substance abuse, not a coordinated trafficking scheme.

“Our client was violent toward women, and that’s not in dispute,” a defense lawyer stated. “But violence alone doesn’t make this a criminal enterprise.”

Sex trafficking and racketeering both carry potential life sentences, making the acquittal on those counts a major legal victory for the embattled music executive.

Combs, however, still faces dozens of civil lawsuits alleging sexual assault, abuse, and coercion.

Born in Harlem, Combs rose to fame after founding Bad Boy Records in 1993, representing major acts such as The Notorious B.I.G. and Usher. His business empire has since expanded to include Sean John clothing, alcohol brands, fragrances, and a media company.
