Delta Primary, Secondary Schools Resume January 5 for 2026 Second Term
The Delta State Government has announced that all public and private primary and secondary schools across the state will resume academic activities for the second term of the 2025/2026 session on Monday, January 5, 2026.
The announcement was contained in a statement jointly signed by the Commissioner for Secondary Education, Chief (Mrs.) Rose Ezewu, JP, and the Commissioner for Primary Education, Dr. Kingsley Ashibogwu.
According to the statement, boarding students are to resume on Sunday, January 4, 2026, ahead of full academic activities the following day.
The commissioners stated that teaching and learning would commence immediately on resumption, after classrooms have been properly cleaned by pupils and students under the supervision of their teachers.
Parents and guardians were advised to ensure that their children and wards are adequately prepared for the resumption, while teachers were directed to report promptly to their duty posts on Monday.
The statement stressed that officers of the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education would be deployed across the state to monitor compliance, warning that teacher absenteeism without proper authorization from school heads would not be tolerated.
The commissioners congratulated education stakeholders — including school heads, principals, teachers, and learners — for witnessing the new year, expressing optimism that 2026 would usher in greater progress for the education sector in Delta State.
They also commended Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori for his sustained support and commitment to improving the state’s education system.
