Delta Police Bust Kidnap Gang, Rescue 3 Victims, Recover AK-47
The Delta State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its fight against kidnapping, rescuing three victims, arresting a suspect and recovering an AK-47 rifle during a gun battle in Issele-Uku.
The operation followed a kidnapping report received on March 16, 2026, at the Issele-Uku Division.
The Divisional Police Officer, Aderemi Badiru, in collaboration with the military, vigilantes and local hunters, led a coordinated search-and-rescue operation targeting suspected hideouts in nearby bush areas.
Security operatives engaged the kidnappers in a fierce exchange of gunfire, leading to the successful rescue of all three victims, who were later reunited with their families.
During the operation, one suspect was fatally wounded, while another, identified as Ahmadu Hassan, 22, from Nasarawa State, was arrested with gunshot injuries.
A search of the area led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle loaded with four rounds of live ammunition.
Police said the injured suspect is receiving treatment under custody, while efforts are ongoing to track down other fleeing members of the gang.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Aina Adesola, commended the operatives for their bravery and effective collaboration with other security agencies.
He also urged residents to support security efforts by providing timely and credible information.
The police reaffirmed their commitment to dismantling criminal networks and improving safety across Delta State.
