Delta Govt Presents 30-Seater Bus to Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences, Kwale

The Delta State Government has presented a 30-seater Coastal Bus to the Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences, Kwale, reaffirming its commitment to supporting the growth and effective administration of the institution.

The presentation was made on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at Government House, Asaba, by the Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, who represented Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.

The Governor said the vehicle was part of his administration’s commitment to supporting the university and ensuring that the institution is able to effectively pursue its mandate in education, healthcare and human capital development.

According to him, the gesture demonstrates the state government’s recognition of the strategic role played by the Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences, Kwale, in developing skilled manpower for Delta State and Nigeria.

Oborevwori said the state government was willing to collaborate with the university to ensure that the vision and objectives behind its establishment by the Federal Government were achieved.

“We are committed to working with you and supporting the institution within the limits of our capacity.

“Obviously, we cannot do everything, but where there is something we can reasonably do to assist the institution, we will always be willing to consider it.

“The vehicle that was pledged is now being presented to you,” he said.

The Governor noted that Delta State hosts several federal universities and other tertiary institutions, in addition to the state-owned university, stressing that all institutions require support to function effectively.

He expressed confidence that the bus would contribute to the smooth administration and day-to-day operations of the Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences, Kwale.

Receiving the vehicle on behalf of the university, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abel Nze Onunu, expressed appreciation to Governor Oborevwori for fulfilling his promise to provide the institution with a vehicle.

Onunu said the donation would significantly strengthen the university’s operations and enhance its ability to deliver on its mandate.

He said the institution was grateful for the support and asked the Deputy Governor to convey its appreciation to Governor Oborevwori.

The Vice-Chancellor also expressed optimism that the continued partnership between the university and the Delta State Government would contribute to efforts to address the shortage of medical personnel in the state and beyond.
