Dangote Group Speaks on Death of Phyna’s Sister, Says India Treatment Was Arranged
The Dangote Group has broken its silence on the tragic death of Ruth Otabor, sister of Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Phyna, who passed away weeks after an accident involving one of the company’s trucks near Auchi Polytechnic, Edo State.
In a statement released on Sunday, Dangote Group expressed deep sadness over the loss and confirmed that it had arranged for Ruth to be flown abroad for advanced medical treatment before her untimely death.
“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Ruth Otabor, who was injured in the recent road incident involving one of our trucks in Auchi, Edo State,” the company said.
The Dangote Group explained that since the accident, its officials and insurance partners had been supporting Ruth and her family by covering all medical and financial costs.
“Since the accident, our officials and insurance partners have been by her side, taking care of medical expenses and providing full support to her family. Arrangements had been made to fly her to India for advanced treatment, pending medical clearance from her doctors. Sadly, despite her brave fight, we lost her today,” the statement added.
The company also reaffirmed its commitment to safety and accountability across its operations while extending condolences to the Otabor family.
“At Dangote Group, safety and compassion remain central to our values. We will continue to improve our safety systems and stand by families in times of tragedy. We pray for the repose of Ruth’s soul,” the statement concluded.
Ruth’s passing was earlier confirmed by Eko Solicitors & Advocates, who spoke on behalf of the Otabor family.
