Chris Brown Granted £5m Bail by London Court
American R\&B singer Chris Brown has been granted bail by a London court after being charged with grievous bodily harm in connection with what prosecutors described as an “unprovoked attack” at a nightclub in 2023.
The 36-year-old Grammy-winning artist was not present at Wednesday’s bail hearing at Southwark Crown Court, where Judge Tony Baumgartner set strict bail conditions, including the payment of a £5 million security fee.
Brown had been held in custody since his arrest in Salford last Thursday. He was initially denied bail during a Friday hearing but was granted conditional release on Wednesday after the court ordered an immediate payment of £4 million, with the remaining £1 million to be paid within seven days.
The charges stem from an incident at Tape nightclub in London’s Mayfair district, where Brown is accused of attacking a music producer with a tequila bottle. He has not yet entered a plea in the case.
Despite the charges, Brown will be allowed to proceed with his upcoming world tour, which begins in Amsterdam on 8 June. UK dates are scheduled in Manchester, London, Cardiff, Birmingham, and Glasgow throughout June and July.
Judge Baumgartner stipulated that Brown must surrender his passport whenever he is not actively travelling for tour commitments. Other bail conditions include residing at a specific court-approved address, refraining from any contact with the alleged victim, staying away from the Tape nightclub, and not applying for new international travel documents.
Brown’s next court appearance is set for 20 June, between concerts at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium and London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
He will appear alongside co-defendant Omololu Akinlolu, 38, a fellow US national who performs under the stage name HoodyBaby.
