Basketmouth Mocks Wizkid, Burna Boy Over Stage Names, Praises Davido’s Consistency

Popular Nigerian comedian, Basketmouth, stirred controversy at the 2025 edition of the AY Live show with playful jabs aimed at music stars Wizkid and Burna Boy, while commending Davido for his consistency and authenticity.

During his stand-up routine, Basketmouth applauded Davido for maintaining a loyal team and for using a stage name closely tied to his real name. He praised the singer’s long-standing career and his commitment to staying true to himself.

“David has been consistent. He even used his real name, Davido. Consistent for years. David has been going on stage with 100 people. Till today, he still maintains that number,” Basketmouth said.

He then turned his attention to Wizkid, joking about the challenges of sticking with a youthful stage name while aging.

“Wizkid gave himself ‘wizkid,’ but he forgot that he would grow old. Now he is struggling to change the name, but nobody agrees — machala, na lie you are a Wizkid. Big Bird — na lie, you’re a kid,” Basketmouth quipped.

The comedian also poked fun at Wizkid’s change in stage presence, noting a shift from energetic performances to a more laid-back style. “He used to dance. Now he wears singlet and just sings,” he joked.

Burna Boy was not spared, as Basketmouth playfully questioned the continued use of “Boy” in his stage name despite his age and stature in the industry.
