Boxing Legend Mayweather Faces Up to 20 Years Over $200K Alleged Fraud Case
American boxing legend Floyd Mayweather is facing serious legal troubles after prosecutors in Nevada charged him with two felonies linked to an alleged bad-check transaction involving a luxury watch purchase.
According to court documents, Mayweather allegedly used a check with insufficient funds to purchase a $200,000 watch from a Las Vegas luxury retailer in December 2024. The charges include theft of property valued at $100,000 or more and passing a check with intent to defraud. If convicted, he could face a prison sentence ranging from one to 20 years.
The complaint was filed after the retailer reportedly spent more than a year attempting to recover the money without success before turning to legal action.
The latest development comes as the undefeated former world champion is also facing financial scrutiny over a $7.3 million tax lien filed by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) for alleged unpaid taxes relating to 2018 and 2023.
Mayweather, who retired with a perfect 50-0 professional record and earned hundreds of millions of dollars during his career, has yet to publicly comment on the latest charges. His legal representatives have also remained largely silent on the matter.
Despite the legal challenges, the boxing icon remains scheduled for upcoming exhibition appearances, with fans closely monitoring the unfolding case.
The allegations mark one of the most significant legal battles Mayweather has faced since retiring from professional boxing and have sparked widespread reactions across the sports world.
