Provide Good, Affordable Houses For Deltans, Delta Assembly Charges DDPA


The Delta State House of Assembly Committee on Housing and Women Development has called for effective collaboration between the state government and the private sector to address housing deficit in the state.

The Chairman of the Committee, Hon Ferguson Onwo made the call when the management of the Delta Development and Property Authority, DDPA, appeared before the members of the Committee to defend their 2021 budget estimates at the Assembly Complex in Asaba.

The Housing and Women Development Committee Chairman, Hon Ferguson Onwo said there was the need for collective efforts to address the housing challenges in the state.

Hon Onwo who represents Isoko South 2 Constituency in the House, maintained that Deltans deserve good and affordable houses.

Flanked by other members of the Committee including Hon Pat Ajudua, Asupa Forteta, Innocent Anidi and Hon Peter Uviejitobor, the Lawmaker stressed that much has not been achieved in the housing sector even beyond Delta State.

He reminded the management of DDPA that one of the cardinal objectives of the agency is to bridge the housing gap and provide good shelters for the people, particularly the low income families.

Hon Onwo however explained that the task can only be achieved through solid partnership with the private sector, especially with those in real estate development and management.

The Lawmaker assured the agency of the committee’s support in achieving its goals and build the housing sector in the state in line with the SMART agenda of Dr Ifeanyi Okowa.

The management of the DDPA said seven hundred and sixty eight million naira is needed to complete the six blocks of flats at seventy two units of thirty six two bedrooms and thirty six three bedrooms housing project being executed by the agency.

The agency said the project is expected to be funded in part from deposits payment from prospective buyers, even as they thanked members of the committee for their continued support and assured that the agency would continue to do it best in line with its mandate.
