Premier League Hits Chelsea With £10.75m Fine, Academy Transfer Ban

The Premier League has fined Chelsea Football Club £10.75 million and imposed sanctions after the club admitted historical breaches of league rules.

In a statement released on March 16, 2026, the league said it concluded two separate disciplinary processes involving Chelsea after the club voluntarily reported potential violations.

“The Premier League has concluded two separate disciplinary processes involving Chelsea Football Club, following the Club voluntarily self-reporting potential historical breaches of rules.”

An independent commission ratified two sanction agreements, with Chelsea accepting fines related to breaches involving financial reporting, third-party investment and youth development rules.

“Two sanction agreements have been ratified by an independent Commission under which Chelsea FC has accepted fines totalling £10.75 million for breaches of the Premier League’s rules relating to Financial Reporting, Third Party Investment and Youth Development.”

The Premier League also handed the club an immediate nine-month academy transfer ban, while imposing a one-year first-team transfer ban suspended for two years.

“The Club has been sanctioned by the Premier League with an immediate nine-month Academy Transfer ban and a suspended one-year first-team player transfer ban (suspended for two years).”

The league’s investigation found that between 2011 and 2018, third parties connected to Chelsea made undisclosed payments to players, agents and other individuals which were not declared to football authorities.

The payments, which benefited the club, should have been reported as part of Chelsea’s financial submissions, the league said.

However, after recalculating the club’s historical financial records, the Premier League determined that Chelsea did not breach its Profitability and Sustainability Rules during the relevant period.

The league added that Chelsea’s voluntary self-reporting, admission of breaches and cooperation during the investigation were considered major mitigating factors.

The Premier League also examined potential breaches of Youth Development Rules linked to academy player registrations between 2019 and 2022, following another voluntary report submitted by the club in 2025.
