Ozoro Festival: SUG President Says Six Students Were Harassed, Not Raped
The President of the Students Union Government (SUG) of Southern Delta University, Mr Oribelua Precious, has clarified that six female students allegedly involved in an incident during a recent festival in Ozoro were sexually harassed and not raped.
The incident reportedly occurred during a traditional festival held in the Uruamudhu quarters of Ozoro Kingdom in Isoko North Local Government Area, where hoodlums allegedly assaulted female attendees.
Addressing the controversy, the SUG President stated that the victims reported harassment rather than rape, seeking to correct earlier claims circulating on social media.
Similarly, the President General of Ozoro Kingdom, Chief Berkeley Asiafa, also dismissed reports of rape but acknowledged misconduct during the event.
He said that while there was no rape, some females were sexually molested by hoodlums who took advantage of the crowded festival environment.
The development has sparked concern among students and residents, with calls for improved security and better crowd control at cultural gatherings to prevent future incidents.
Authorities are yet to announce any arrests as of the time of filing this report, but stakeholders have urged law enforcement agencies to investigate the matter thoroughly and ensure accountability.
