Olamide Ditches Amala, Breaks Naija Hearts One Veggie at a Time

Popular Nigerian rapper, Olamide Adedeji, widely known as Olamide Baddo, has surprised fans with a dramatic change in his eating habits trading beloved Nigerian dishes like Amala for lighter, healthier options such as broccoli.

The revelation was made during a candid appearance on “Flow With Korty,” a YouTube series hosted by content creator Korty EO. The episode premiered on Sunday, August 3, and has since gone viral across social media platforms.

When asked about his favorite food, Olamide responded plainly,“I’m not a big fan of food.”Pressed further by Korty, he added,“Veggies. But I can kill for broccoli.”

The rapper went on to list his current favorites, including broccoli, sea bass fish, lamb chops, and even caviar, which he described as “light stuff.” In contrast, he admitted he now avoids heavy local meals like Amala, explaining that they often leave him feeling bloated and sluggish.

“I used to enjoy them,” he said, “but now, I just don’t like how they make me feel.”

The comments sparked intense debate online. Some fans praised his discipline, while others humorously criticized his departure from cultural staples.
On X (formerly Twitter), user @brtu0_1 joked, “Broccoli? Don’t worry, if he ever feels hungry properly, he’ll have some Amala lol.”

Another user, @Iam_Adejola, added a nutritional perspective,“Good to eat healthy, but carbs are needed too. Otherwise, every month you’ll be treating iron deficiency anaemia and low blood sugar.”

Instagram commenters were just as divided. While some praised broccoli for its cancer-prevention properties, others questioned the wisdom of replacing traditional meals with “Westernized” diets.
One user, @shakar_el, commented,“Health is wealth, but omo I can’t skip Amala. Bring all the salmon and mashed potatoes, but abeg, I still need some Amala and pounded yam.”

Another, @bigyaadbond, offered a more skeptical view,“Broccoli is not a naturally occurring food. It’s not as healthy as ewedu. Don’t let the white man fool you.”
