Obodo To Osimhen – Compromise or Risk It All
Former Super Eagles midfielder Christian Obodo has cautioned Victor Osimhen to consider compromising on his demands to secure his next career move amidst ongoing transfer speculation.
Obodo believes that the Napoli striker’s high release clause and salary demands have deterred top European clubs from pursuing him.
“I know Osimhen would still like to play European football and achieve a lot but the clause Napoli put on him and his wages is scaring clubs away. The clubs do not want to make a decision that will bounce back and make them regret,” Obodo said in an interview with Brila.net.
Obodo also expressed his concerns about the perception of Nigerian players in comparison to their South American counterparts. “Nigeria does not package their players well. If Osimhen was Brazilian, they (European top clubs) would have signed him since. The way some Nigerians talk about their countrymen is not fair.”
Urging Osimhen to carefully consider his options, Obodo added, “For me, it is left for Osimhen to compromise if he wants to stay in Europe or go to Al Hilal for the wages. Whatever decision he makes, we should just pray he does not make the wrong decision.”
The 26-year-old Osimhen recently concluded a successful loan spell at Galatasaray, scoring 37 goals in 41 appearances.
The Turkish club is reportedly keen to sign him permanently, while Juventus, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester United are also rumored to be interested in the striker, who previously turned down a move to Al Hilal in the Saudi Pro League.
