My Political Aides Earn More than ₦1m Monthly – Gov Umo Eno
Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has revealed that none of his political aides earn less than ₦1 million monthly, dismissing claims that their pay is “stipends.”
Governor Eno made the disclosure during a Town Square Meeting with the people of Ikono and Ini Federal Constituency at Ibiaku Ntok Okpo. He emphasized that his administration ensures political appointees are well remunerated and expects them to use part of their earnings to impact their communities.
The Governor particularly commended Blessed Essien, his Personal Assistant (PA) on Protocol, who used part of his salary to fund a water borehole project for his village. As recognition for this gesture, Governor Eno promoted Essien to Special Assistant (SA) on Public Works.
“No Personal Assistant to the Governor earns less than ₦1 million monthly. It is misleading to call that a stipend. That is substantial income, and I expect transparency and accountability from all my appointees,” Governor Eno stated.
He contrasted Essien’s community-driven initiative with the actions of other aides who, despite similar opportunities, have not undertaken meaningful projects.
Governor Eno also directed the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) to publish a comprehensive list of all political appointees, organized by local government areas, in a national newspaper.
Encouraging constituents to hold their representatives accountable, he said:
“Ask your PAs, your SAs, SSAs, and Commissioners — what have they done for your communities?”
The Governor concluded by stressing that performance and responsibility remain key benchmarks in his administration, highlighting that Essien’s promotion was a direct reward for visible impact.
