Man City Agree Deal with AC Milan for Midfielder Tijjani Reijnders
Manchester City have agreed a deal with AC Milan for Dutch midfielder Tijjani Reijnders, marking their first major signing of the summer transfer window.
The 26-year-old is set to join the Premier League champions’ rivals for a fee of 55 million euros ($63 million) and is understood to have agreed a five-year contract.
The deal is yet to be formalized, but City hope to complete the transfer in time for the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States, which starts on June 14.
Reijnders will strengthen Pep Guardiola’s midfield options following the expected departure of Kevin De Bruyne, who is reportedly close to joining Napoli.
Reijnders joined AC Milan from AZ Alkmaar in 2023 and scored 15 goals for the Italian club in the 2024/25 season. He will provide valuable depth and creativity to City’s midfield, which has been impacted by Mateo Kovacic’s injury.
The Croatian midfielder has been ruled out of the Club World Cup after undergoing surgery on an Achilles injury.
City endured a disappointing 2024/25 campaign, finishing third in the Premier League and failing to win a trophy for the first time in eight years. Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak recently acknowledged that the club “probably should have been more aggressive” in the transfer market ahead of the season.
As defending champions, City will look to bounce back from last season’s disappointments at the Club World Cup.
They open their campaign against Moroccan club Wydad Casablanca in Philadelphia on June 18.
