‘Like a Fish Out of Water, APC Will Offer Shelter’ – Ganduje tells Kwankwaso
National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, has declared that the ruling party would not reject former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, should he choose to defect to the APC.
Ganduje made the statement on Tuesday while addressing journalists after receiving the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Yusuf Ata, at the APC national secretariat in Abuja.
“The APC is deepening and widening democracy in the country. Kwankwaso is a fish out of water, trying to find its way back into the waters,” Ganduje said.
“We cannot say we can’t accommodate him, because a friend in need is a friend indeed. We don’t want to leave him completely abandoned. We can still have him in, if he wants to join us.”
The APC chairman went on to describe the gesture as both moral and strategic. “When you see your son running to where he would get shelter and you are a big brother in a big home, I think it is morally right to accommodate him. So, we cannot say we cannot accommodate him,” he added.
Earlier, Minister Yusuf Ata, who was once the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, said he was at the party secretariat to pay his respects to Ganduje and reaffirm support for President Bola Tinubu.
“We are strongly behind Tinubu, and we are working around the clock to ensure we deliver Kano State in 2027,” Ata stated.
Commenting on the political influence of Kwankwaso’s movement, he said, “The Kwankwasiyya red cap era is becoming a thing of the past in Kano.”
However, despite his reservations, Ata acknowledged the party leadership’s prerogative. “For me, I will not want the former Kano state governor to be welcomed into the APC fold. But I have no choice if our national chairman decides to have him on board,” he said.
