Delta Speaker, 21 Lawmakers Officially Defect to APC

In a significant political development, Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Emomotimi Guwor, along with 21 other legislators, have officially defected from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The announcement was made during a plenary session on May 6, 2025, where Speaker Guwor presented 22 letters, including his own to the House, indicating their collective decision to switch parties.

This mass defection follows the recent move by Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, who also left the PDP for the APC.

The shift marks a significant realignment in Delta State’s political landscape.

Speaker Guwor assured constituents that the decision was made in the best interest of the state’s progress.

He emphasized that the move would foster greater collaboration between the state and federal governments, potentially leading to increased federal support and funding for infrastructure and development projects in Delta State.

Speaking to newsmen shortly after the plenary, the Majority Leader, Hon Emeka Emmanuel Nwaobi, emphasized that the decision of the House was a unanimous one, reached after proper consultations at different levels, following the leadership of Delta State politics, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori.
The Majority Leader categorically stated that party affiliation is irrelevant to the business of the House, as it functions the same way for the good of Delta State.
