JUST IN: Senate Approves Tinubu’s Troop Mission to Benin Republic
The Nigerian Senate has approved President Bola Tinubu’s request to deploy Nigerian troops to the Republic of Benin for a peacekeeping mission.
The approval was granted in line with the provisions of Section 5, Part 2 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio said the expeditious approval was necessary “to ensure peace and stability and to avoid humanitarian crisis in the sub region.”
The Senate expressed confidence that the deployment is a positive step in strengthening regional security and maintaining constitutional order, describing it as “a good step in the right direction.”
