JAMB Expands UTME to Canada for Nigerians in Diaspora
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has expanded the international footprint of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) by establishing testing centers in Canada.
The decision forms part of a strategic initiative to lower barriers for eligible Nigerians in North America seeking direct admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions.
Addressing the development, the Registrar explained that taking the UTME to Canada provides a seamless pathway for diaspora youths to connect with Nigeria’s higher education system without requiring them to fly back home solely to write the entrance examination.
The examination body noted that the Canadian expansion aligns with changing global demands, ensuring the board’s Computer-Based Test (CBT) framework reaches Nigerians across key international hubs.
“The establishment of the Canadian testing center offers a bigger opportunity to strengthen the connection between Nigerians in the diaspora and Nigerian tertiary education,” JAMB stated. “It provides easier access, reduces logistical burdens, and ensures our academic standards are accessible globally.”
With this addition, Canada joins a growing list of foreign locations including the United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Ghana, and the United Benin Republic, where JAMB conducts foreign UTME centers to serve the Nigerian diaspora.
