Iwobi, Chukwueze Join Super Eagles Camp for Portugal Friendly
The Super Eagles have received a major boost ahead of their international friendly against Portugal, with Alex Iwobi joining the team’s training camp in Lisbon as preparations intensify for the high-profile encounter.
Team officials confirmed that the squad arrived in Portugal after their recent 2-2 draw against Poland, with 19 players making the trip from Warsaw to Lisbon. Iwobi’s arrival strengthens Nigeria’s midfield options as head coach Eric Chelle continues to fine-tune his squad ahead of the clash.
Samuel Chukwueze is also expected to link up with the team, bringing additional firepower to the Super Eagles attack. Reports indicate that the AC Milan winger was due to arrive in camp shortly after the team’s relocation to Portugal.
The friendly against Portugal is scheduled for June 10 in Leiria and will serve as an important test for the Super Eagles against one of Europe’s top football nations. The match is also expected to be Portugal’s final preparation game before the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
For Nigeria, the fixture offers another opportunity for players to impress Chelle as he continues to build a competitive squad for future international competitions. With Iwobi back in the fold and Chukwueze set to join the camp, the Super Eagles are nearing full strength ahead of the much-anticipated showdown.
