Ibom Air Passenger Breaks Silence After Ordeal

Comfort Emmanson, the Ibom Air passenger whose recent clash with airline officials led to her imprisonment, has spoken out for the first time since her release from prison.

In a heartfelt Instagram post on Wednesday, Emmanson confirmed she had regained her freedom but said she was still dealing with the physical and emotional effects of the incident.

“Thank you so much for all the prayers, love, and support. I’ve been released from prison, but I’m still in pains due to how I was treated,” she wrote.

“I just need some rest and medical treatment before I give out my own version of the event. Thank you so much my lovely friends and supporters. I really appreciate y’all from the bottom of my heart. God bless y’all.”

Emmanson was released from Kirikiri Prison after a Lagos magistrate court struck out the five-count charge filed against her by the police. The charges, which bordered on alleged assault and unruly behavior, were withdrawn by the authorities.

The incident that sparked the case occurred on Sunday during an Uyo-to-Lagos flight, when Emmanson clashed with Ibom Air officials. She was forcefully removed from the aircraft, with her clothes torn in the process, leaving her partially nude. The viral incident drew widespread outrage, with many Nigerians condemning the treatment she received.

On Tuesday, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, announced that Ibom Air had withdrawn its complaint against Emmanson and lifted the lifetime flight ban previously imposed on her.

While she has yet to give a detailed account of what happened, Emmanson says she will share her side of the story after resting and undergoing medical treatment.

The incident continues to stir conversations on passengers’ rights, airline conduct, and the handling of in-flight disputes in Nigeria’s aviation sector.
