Hilda Baci Washes Giant Pot Ahead of Record-Breaking Jollof Rice Attempt
Nigerian celebrity chef and Guinness World Record holder, Hilda Baci, has kicked off preparations for her much-anticipated world-record jollof rice attempt by washing the massive pot designed for the event.
The pot, fabricated in Gbagada, Lagos, was delivered to Eko Hotel & Suites, the official venue for the “World Jollof Rice Festival” taking place today, September 12, 2025. With a capacity of about 22,619 litres and a width of nearly six metres, the specially made pot will be used for the record-breaking cooking exercise.
In viral photos shared on social media, Hilda Baci was seen personally scrubbing the pot with detergent in readiness for the historic attempt.

According to organisers, the jollof rice challenge is expected to attract over 20,000 people, with free registration and meals for participants. The event, originally scheduled to hold at Muri Okunola Park, was moved to Eko Hotel & Suites to accommodate the large turnout.
The cooking is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m., with Hilda Baci leading the team.
On social media, reactions to the giant pot have been mixed, with some users commenting that it looked smaller than expected despite its massive capacity, while others raised questions about whether gas or firewood would be used for the cooking process.
