Celebrity chef and Guinness World Record holder, Hilda Baci, on Friday kicked off her much-anticipated attempt to cook the world’s largest pot of Nigerian jollof rice at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos.
The event, tagged the “Gino Jollof Festival,” is being held in collaboration with the seasoning and culinary brand, Gino. It features a custom-made pot measuring six metres wide and six metres tall, into which 250 bags of rice will be cooked for tens of thousands of attendees.
Before the cookout began, Pastor Bolaji Idowu, Lead Pastor of Harvesters International Christian Centre, offered prayers for Baci, blessing her ambitious record-breaking attempt.
The festival has drawn massive crowds, including Gen Zs, millennials, food lovers, and Nigerian celebrities. Influencers such as Enioluwa Adeoluwa, Tomike Adeoye, Folagade Banks, and Veekee James were also present to cheer her on.
According to the organisers, more than 20,000 people registered for the free event, making it one of the largest food festivals in recent memory.
Hilda Baci, who rose to global fame in 2023 after breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon, reassured attendees that the giant jollof rice meal would be “amazing and hygienic,” promising an unforgettable culinary experience.
The attempt is expected to put Nigerian jollof rice on an unprecedented global stage, showcasing its cultural and culinary significance.
