Henderson Returns to Premier League with Brentford Deal
Jordan Henderson has signed a two-year contract with Brentford, marking his return to the Premier League after leaving Liverpool in 2023.
The 35-year-old England midfielder joined the Bees on a free transfer following his exit from Ajax, where he had been captain.
Brentford manager Keith Andrews made Henderson a priority signing after losing Christian Norgaard to Arsenal.
According to Andrews, the decision to sign Henderson was straightforward. “When we became aware of Jordan’s availability, it was a pretty simple decision,” he said.
“We did our due diligence around his recent games to see where he is. He’s still phenomenally fit and he’s still phenomenally motivated to achieve things in the game, having already achieved a lot. With the void of experienced players leaving the building Christian Norgaard, Mark Flekken, and Ben Mee – it was important to replace that.”
Andrews highlighted Henderson’s leadership qualities, experience, and professionalism as key assets for the team. “What Jordan will bring is that he has been one of the most influential leaders in modern Premier League years. He’s been at the forefront of driving for titles and Champions Leagues at a fantastic football club,” he said.
“He also has experience at international level with England and, with that, comes a level of experience, professionalism, and dedication to his profession that’s the exact way we want to be as a football club.”
Henderson, who has 84 England caps and was recently recalled by Thomas Tuchel, brings a wealth of experience to the team.
His career has taken him from Liverpool, where he spent 12 years and won numerous trophies including the Champions League and Premier League, to Saudi Arabian club Al-Ettifaq, and more recently, Ajax, where he made 57 appearances before his contract was terminated.
With his signing, Henderson looks set to bring his expertise and leadership to a team looking to fill gaps left by departing players.
