Barcelona star Lamine Yamal is facing a major backlash following his 18th birthday celebration, as the Spanish government has demanded a full investigation into the controversial event.
The outrage comes after allegations that people with dwarfism were exploited as entertainment and women with specific body features were paid to attend.
According to social media model Claudia Calvo, Yamal allegedly hired 12 women with a “certain breast size” to attend his mafia-themed party.
The incident has sparked public condemnation, with the government now seeking a hefty fine and an official probe into the gathering.
Yamal, who turned 18 on July 13, hosted around 200 guests, including friends, family, and teammates, at the lavish party.
The Association of People with Achondroplasia and Other Skeletal Dysplasias with Dwarfism (ADEE) had earlier threatened legal action, and the Spanish government has joined the calls for accountability, expressing outrage over the alleged mistreatment.
Spanish newspaper Marca reports that Yamal could face a fine of up to £867,000. Jesús Martín, the General Director of Disability in the Spanish government, called for ministers to approve an immediate investigation.
He said, “We are concerned that people with money, people with power, believe themselves to be unpunished. The law is for everyone, for the humble and for the powerful.”
Martín further warned of the negative influence such actions could have on young, impressionable fans who idolize Yamal.
In a strong statement, ADEE condemned the football star’s actions:
“The ADEE, a member organisation of the Spanish Confederation of People with Physical and Organic Disabilities, condemns and publicly denounces the hiring of people with dwarfism as part of the entertainment at the recent 18th birthday party of soccer player Lamine Yamal.”
“The Association announces that it will take legal and social action to safeguard the dignity of people with disabilities, considering that these actions violate not only current legislation but also the fundamental ethical values of a society that seeks to be egalitarian and respectful.”
The controversy continues to grow as authorities review the details of the incident, with the potential for severe legal and financial consequences looming over the Barcelona sensation.
