Fernandes Is Staying at Man United, says Amorim
Manchester United coach Ruben Amorim has confirmed he wants to retain the services of star midfielder Bruno Fernandes despite reports of interest from Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal.
The 30-year-old captain has been instrumental in United’s success, scoring two goals in the Europa League semi-final first leg against Athletic Bilbao.
Amorim, who previously dismissed rumors of Fernandes joining Real Madrid, was adamant that the Portugal international is crucial to United’s plans. “He is a top player, we need top players.
He is a leader, he’s the captain, so he’s really important,”Amorim said in a press conference. “We want to keep the best players, and Bruno is clearly one of the top players in the world, so our idea didn’t change. We want Bruno here.”
Meanwhile, youngster Alejandro Garnacho, who has also been linked with a move away from Old Trafford, insisted he is happy at United. “I have a contract here until 2028, so I’m happy here,” Garnacho said, downplaying speculation about his future.
United are in a strong position to reach the Europa League final after their 3-0 win in Spain, and Amorim will be hoping to see his side progress without key defender Matthijs de Ligt, who is set to miss the second leg due to injury.
Christian Eriksen, who missed Wednesday’s training session, is expected to be available for selection.
The Red Devils are bidding to end a disappointing season on a high note, with a Europa League trophy potentially securing a Champions League spot and a significant financial boost.
