‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Star Eric Dane Dies at 53 After ALS Fight


Veteran actor Eric Dane, remembered for his iconic role as Dr. Mark “McSteamy” Sloan on Grey’s Anatomy and as Cal Jacobs on Euphoria, has died at the age of 53 following a battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), representatives confirmed.

Dane passed away on February 19, 2026, less than a year after publicly revealing his ALS diagnosis, a progressive neurological disease that affects nerve cells controlling muscle movement.

“With heavy hearts, we share that Eric Dane passed on Thursday afternoon following a courageous battle with ALS,” the family said in a statement. “He spent his final days surrounded by dear friends, his devoted wife, and his two beautiful daughters, Billie and Georgia, who were the center of his world.”

Throughout his illness, Dane became an outspoken advocate for ALS awareness and research, using his platform to support others facing the disease.

Dane rose to fame in 2005 with Grey’s Anatomy and also starred in films such as X-Men: The Last Stand and Marley & Me. He later appeared in the HBO drama Euphoria, earning praise for his range and dedication.

Fans and peers alike have paid tribute to his legacy, celebrating his contributions to television and his courage in the face of illness.
