Delta Police, Bankers Partner to Strengthen Security Ahead of Yuletide
The Delta State Police Command has taken proactive steps to secure financial institutions and residents ahead of the festive season by holding a strategic security meeting with members of the Bankers’ Forum in Delta State.
The meeting, which took place on Tuesday, was convened by the Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, and attended by the Chief Security Officer of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Asaba branch, Mrs. Evangeline Patrick, alongside 39 bank heads across the state.
Represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, CP Abaniwonda emphasized the importance of banks reinforcing their security systems during the ember months, a period that often records increased commercial activities and criminal incidents.
The DCP advised financial institutions to install advanced and fully functional CCTV systems to support police surveillance efforts. He further urged banks to consistently review and update their security strategies, especially considering Delta’s boundaries with Edo and neighboring states.
Commending the move, Mrs. Patrick of the CBN disclosed that the apex bank enforces strict compliance by withholding cash supplies from banks that fail to provide adequate police escorts during special cash movements.
Reassuring stakeholders, DCP Adejobi affirmed the Command’s readiness to ensure a crime-free festive season, describing the meeting as part of broader proactive measures to safeguard lives and property.
Police spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, added that the Command will sustain its partnership with stakeholders to guarantee safe banking operations and community security throughout the yuletide.
