Warri Prison Inmates Get 8-Classroom Facility for Skills, Education

Inmates at the Medium Security Correction Centre, Okere Road, Warri, have received a major boost in their rehabilitation journey following the inauguration of a newly built 8-classroom block dedicated to education and skills development.

The project, a collaboration between the Delta State Government and Tantita Security Services Ltd, was commissioned on Tuesday as part of efforts to promote inmate reintegration through access to learning.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Managing Director of Tantita Security, Chief Keston Pondi, said the initiative reflects the company’s commitment to human development and peacebuilding. He stressed that education remains a powerful tool for reducing recidivism and giving inmates a second chance at life.

Representing Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, the Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Nyerhovwo Tonukari, hailed the facility as proof of the administration’s belief in education as a pathway to rehabilitation.

“By equipping inmates with knowledge and skills, we are not just giving them a second chance but also contributing to the growth and security of our state,” Prof. Tonukari said.

He commended Tantita Security for its corporate social responsibility, describing the partnership as a model of effective government-private sector collaboration.

The classrooms, designed to host both academic and vocational programs, will provide a conducive environment for inmates to pursue education, acquire skills, and prepare for reintegration into society.

The inauguration underscores the growing synergy between government and private stakeholders in Delta State, with both parties affirming that the facility will serve as a beacon of hope for inmates seeking transformation and a fresh start.
