Delta Police Arrest Armed Robbery, Cult, and Drug Suspects, Recover Pistol, Ammunition, and Illicit Substances


The Delta State Police Command has recorded major breakthroughs in its ongoing war against crime, with the arrest of suspected armed robbers, cultists, and drug peddlers in two separate sting operations.

According to a statement issued on Friday, September 19, 2025, by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the operations led to the recovery of an English pistol, live ammunition, and a substantial quantity of illicit drugs.

According to the statement, on September 17, 2025, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ogwashi-Uku Division, CSP Israel Okomoyon, led a joint patrol comprising officers of the division and local vigilantes.

The patrol team intercepted three young men on a motorcycle. The suspects, identified as Emmanuel Ibekwe (25 years), Victor Chibuzor (25 years), and Zakaria Joro (25 years), all residents of Ogwashi-Uku, were searched, leading to the discovery of an English pistol loaded with two rounds of live ammunition.

The police said the suspects could not provide any satisfactory explanation for being in possession of the firearm. They were immediately taken into custody, while the case has been transferred to the State Anti-Kidnapping Squad (SAKS) for further investigation.

In another major breakthrough, operatives of the Eagle Net Special Squad, led by SP Danyaya Yunusa, acting on credible intelligence and working alongside the Nigeria Hunters Forest Security Service (NHFSS), stormed a hotel along the Asaba/Benin Expressway, Agbor, on September 13, 2025.

The raid led to the arrest of ten suspects, including Markwuye Peter, the alleged owner of the hotel located on Ifeanchukwu Street, Agbor. Police operatives recovered a large quantity of illicit drugs from the premises.

The suspects are currently in custody as discreet investigations continue to determine the full scope of their criminal activities and possible links to wider drug trafficking networks.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, commended the officers for their swift action and reiterated the Command’s commitment to tackling crime across the state.

“These breakthroughs underscore the Command’s renewed operational drive, backed by intelligence, community collaboration, and swift response mechanisms aimed at restoring peace and safety across Delta State,” Olufemi stated.

He also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and to continue providing credible information to the police, assuring them of prompt response and protection.
