Food Security: Delta Lawmaker Distributes Bags Of Fertilizer To Constituents


As part of measures aimed at cushioning the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, and boost food production in Ika North East local government area, the member representing the constituency in the State House of Assembly Honourable Anthony Elekeokwuri has distributed hundreds of bags of NPK fertilizer to farmers.

Speaking with journalists in Asaba, Honourable Elekeokwuri said the distribution of fertilizers had been ongoing prior to the outbreak of the COVID-19, pointing out that it would be a continuous process because his constituents were predominantly farmers in agrarian communities.

The lawmaker said he had continued to keep touch with his constituents, especially in the face of the Coronavirus, explaining that apart from embarking on sensitisation programmes in various communities, he had consistently distributed food stuff, sanitizers, hand washing facilities and soaps to major public places in the area.

Honourable Elekeokwuri who is also the Chairman, House Committee on Public Accounts commended the state governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa for providing food stuffs to the people of Ika North East local government area and other parts of the state as palliatives, disclosing that he personally monitored the distribution of the items.

Speaking on his activities since the House of Assembly went on recess last month, the vibrant lawmaker explained that he was able to relate more closely with his constituents, and work painstakingly alongside other members of the Public Accounts Committee to deliberate and scrutinise the audit reports by the Auditor General, State.

He said when the House finally reconvenes from recess next month, the Committee on Public Accounts would present its report, even as he assured Deltans of the commitment of members of the committee to create an atmosphere to achieve transparency, and accountability in the governance of the state.

Honourable Elekeokwuri said the Okowa administration was taking deliberate steps in ensuring quick recovery of the economy, post COVID-19, such as the budget review, and other viable measures, pointing out that the present administration’s drive to attract investors was yielding positive results especially in the creative industry and the Agricultural sector.
