Cardi B Cleared of $24m Assault Allegations, Challenges Reporter After Verdict

Rapper Cardi B has been cleared of assault charges in a $24 million civil lawsuit filed by a security guard who accused her of attacking her outside a doctor’s office in 2018.

According to reports, the trial, which took place in Alhambra, Los Angeles, centred on allegations by Emani Ellis, who claimed that Cardi B cut her cheek with a 3-inch fingernail and spat on her during a confrontation. At the time, the rapper was four months pregnant with her first child, a fact not publicly known, prompting the medical office to close for the day to protect her privacy.

Taking the stand, Cardi B gave detailed testimony, denying the accusations. She described how Ellis followed her, filmed her with a phone, and refused to respect her personal space. Ellis told the court she was “traumatised” by the incident. However, after about an hour of deliberation, the jury cleared Cardi B of all charges, including assault, battery, negligence, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and false imprisonment.

Speaking to reporters after the verdict, Cardi B said, “I work all day and I work hard for my money, for my kids, for the people that I take care of. So don’t you ever think that you’re going to sue me, and I’m just going to settle.”

She also urged her fans and the public to respect Ellis’s privacy now that the case is closed.

In a separate development following the trial, Cardi B who is currently pregnant confronted a reporter who asked her a controversial personal question about her relationship with Offset and alleged paternity issues. The rapper reacted sharply, throwing a pen at the reporter and saying:

“Stop disrespecting me. Don’t disrespect me. Do you see women asking me those types of questions? Why do you feel, as a man, that you get to ask me those kinds of questions? Act like you have some manners. And your mama taught you to respect women.”

The exchange has since drawn mixed reactions online. While many praised Cardi B for boldly standing up against disrespect, others expressed concern over her physical response so soon after being cleared of assault allegations.
