The remains of former President Muhammadu Buhari have arrived in Nigeria.
Monitored via a live stream aired on TVC, Buhari’s body arrived at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua International Airport in Katsina around 2 p.m., following its departure from London, where he passed away on July 13 at the age of 82. Vice-President Kashim Shettima and Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila accompanied the remains from London, arriving ahead of the state ceremony.
President Bola Tinubu received the body upon arrival. The burial service will be held later today at approximately 2 p.m. in Daura, following Islamic rites.
Security has been significantly tightened in Daura. The DSS, Nigerian Army, police, and NSCDC have been deployed to ensure peace during both the reception and interment. Workers began preparing the burial site at Buhari’s compound early Tuesday morning, with grave-digging commencing ahead of the ceremony.
Residents in Daura have gathered quietly to pay their respects, though access remains restricted for security reasons.
