Breaking: Nnamdi Kanu to Be Sentenced November 20
The Federal High Court in Abuja has fixed November 20 for judgment in the seven-count terrorism charge filed by the Federal Government against the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.
Justice James Omotosho announced the date on Friday, after Kanu failed to open his defence within the six days earlier allotted by the court.
Instead of presenting his defence, Kanu, who is now representing himself after dismissing his legal team, filed a fresh motion challenging the competence of the charges and the jurisdiction of the court to try him.
The court briefly stood down the matter for one hour to allow the defendant to prepare, but Kanu opted to file a motion insisting that his prosecution was anchored on a repealed law.
In the motion, the IPOB leader argued that the Terrorism Prevention and Prohibition Act, under which he is being tried, no longer exists, describing the proceedings as unconstitutional and invalid.
Justice Omotosho, after hearing arguments, adjourned the case until November 20 for judgment, a decision that could determine Kanu’s fate after years of detention and multiple legal battles.
