BREAKING: FG Declares Tuesday Public Holiday in Honour of Late President Buhari
The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, July 15, 2025, a public holiday in honour of Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away on Sunday in London.
This was announced in a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Magdalene Ajani.
According to the statement, the declaration is in continuation of the seven days of national mourning earlier announced by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to honour the late statesman.
The statement reads: “The Federal Government hereby declares Tuesday, July 15, 2025, as a public holiday to mark the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari, in line with the national mourning period declared by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
Buhari, who served as Nigeria’s democratically elected President from 2015 to 2023, and as military Head of State from 1984 to 1985, is scheduled to be buried in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State, on Tuesday, according to Islamic rites.
His death has drawn tributes from across the country and abroad, with many describing him as a symbol of discipline, integrity, and national service.
