Asaba Set to Host DOPF 2025 Convention on Nigeria’s New Tax Law
Asaba, the Delta State capital, will host the 2025 Convention and Annual Lecture of the Delta Online Publishers Forum (DOPF) from Wednesday, November 26 to Thursday, November 27, 2025.
In a statement jointly signed by the Chairman and Secretary of the Planning Committee, Abel Johngold and Josephine Idiovwan Omodior, the Forum disclosed that the programme will begin with the induction of new members and a capacity-building training session for journalists. The highlight of the event will be the Annual Lecture on the theme: “Nigeria’s New Tax Law: Implications and Opportunities for Businesses and Society.”
According to the organisers, the theme reflects the importance of Nigeria’s new tax law, which comes into effect on January 1, 2026. The country’s tax framework has seen major reforms over the decades, from the Petroleum Profits Tax Act of 1959 and the Companies Income Tax Act of 1961 to the introduction of Value Added Tax in 1993. However, the new law is regarded as one of the most comprehensive reforms yet, aimed at simplifying tax processes, closing revenue leakages, and enhancing transparency in public finance.
The two-day convention will provide a platform for stakeholders to discuss the challenges and opportunities presented by the new legislation. Deliberations are expected to focus on business adaptation, government accountability, fairness in taxation, and the effective use of revenues for infrastructure and social development.
DOPF also confirmed that the lecture will feature a keynote speaker with expertise in fiscal and economic policy, supported by a panel of discussants drawn from government, professional associations, civil society groups, and the private sector. Their collective insights are expected to offer practical guidance for implementing the tax reform in a way that balances business interests with societal needs.
Beyond the lecture, the Forum highlighted its commitment to professional development in the media sector. By combining member induction, training, and the Annual Lecture, the Convention will not only strengthen the capacity of media practitioners but also contribute meaningfully to national conversations on one of Nigeria’s most significant fiscal policy reforms.
