Oscar Ibru Dies at 67 After Brief Illness as Governor Oborevwori, Others Pay Tributes
Prominent industrialist and Chairman of the Ibru Organisation, Olorogun Oscar Ibru, has died at the age of 67 after a brief illness. His passing has thrown the Agbarha-Otor Kingdom in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State into mourning.
Ibru, the first son of legendary entrepreneur Olorogun Michael Ibru, was widely celebrated for his contributions to commerce, hospitality, and social development in Nigeria.
Governor Oborevwori pays tribute
Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, described the news as a “monumental loss to the Urhobo nation and Nigeria.”
In a condolence statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Festus Ahon, the governor praised Ibru’s achievements in job creation, philanthropy, and institution-building through the Ibru Organisation.
“He was a remarkable son of Delta who distinguished himself in business and philanthropy. His demise is a great loss not only to his family and the Urhobo nation but to our state and country,” Oborevwori said.
Urhobo leaders mourn
Urhobo leaders and community figures also expressed grief, Olorogun Albert Akpomudje, SAN, Otota of Olomu Kingdom, called Ibru’s death an “irreparable loss,” recalling his support during the kingdom’s leadership transition.
Joseph Umudjere, President General of Agbarha-Otor Kingdom, said his passing is “a big blow” at a time when the community needed his guidance most.
Olorogun Jaro Egbo, Chairman of Ughelli North LGA, described the death as a “rude shock,” consoling the Ibru family and people of Agbarha-Otor.
Oscar Ibru will be remembered as a visionary businessman who carried forward the Ibru dynasty’s tradition of excellence. His enduring legacy of enterprise, generosity, and service to community development leaves an indelible mark on Delta State and Nigeria.
