Turkey Offers to Host Trump, Putin, Zelensky Peace Summit in Bid to End Ukraine War
Turkey has proposed hosting a high-level peace summit involving U.S. President Donald Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as part of renewed efforts to end the ongoing war in Ukraine.
Speaking during an official visit to Kyiv on Friday, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan announced the initiative, emphasizing Ankara’s ongoing role as a mediator in the conflict.
“We sincerely think that it is possible to cap the first and second direct Istanbul talks with a meeting between Mr. Trump, Mr. (Vladimir) Putin and M. (Volodymyr) Zelensky, under the direction of Mr. (Recep Tayyip Erdogan),” Fidan said.
As a NATO member maintaining diplomatic ties with both Kyiv and Moscow, Turkey has sought to position itself as a neutral ground for negotiations. The proposed summit, if accepted by all parties, would mark a significant step toward direct dialogue between the three leaders.
“We can either close our eyes to the continuation of this war, or reach a durable peace before the end of the year,” Fidan stated. “Expectations for a ceasefire and peace have increased.”
Fidan also stressed the importance of sustained diplomatic engagement. “Progress can certainly be made as long as we remain at the negotiating table,” he added.
Following his remarks, Fidan was scheduled to meet with President Zelensky in Kyiv. Earlier in the week, he held discussions with top Russian officials in Moscow, signaling Ankara’s continued commitment to brokering peace.
