Trump Slashes Weight-Loss Drug Prices, Promises Affordable Access
President Donald Trump has announced a major initiative to drastically reduce the cost of popular weight-loss medications in the United States, a move he described as “life-saving” and aimed at improving the health of millions of Americans.
Speaking at the White House on Wednesday, Trump said the plan developed in partnership with major pharmaceutical companies would make groundbreaking obesity drugs such as Wegovy, Ozempic, and Zepbound far more affordable for ordinary citizens.
“We’re delivering the biggest price cuts in history for weight-loss drugs. It will save lives and improve the health of millions and millions of Americans,” Trump said.
The move comes amid rising public demand for anti-obesity drugs, whose retail prices have surged to over $1,000 per monthly dose in recent years, putting them out of reach for many patients.
Trump said his administration had negotiated “drastic discounts” directly with drugmakers, forcing price reductions of up to 70 percent in some cases.
“Big Pharma has made billions while hardworking Americans suffered. Those days are over. We’re putting people over profit,” the President declared.
