Trump’s Threat: Presidency Debunks Report on Tinubu’s Alleged Visit to U.S

The Presidency has dismissed as false and misleading a report claiming that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is scheduled to travel to the United States on Tuesday for a meeting with U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance.

The clarification came from the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Temitope Ajayi, who described the report — published by Sahara Reporters — as fake news designed to mislead the public and stir unnecessary speculation.

Taking to his official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Monday, Ajayi stated emphatically: “There’s a Sahara Reporters story that President Tinubu is going to the U.S. on Tuesday to see U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance. That story is not true. I can see that the fake news by Sahara has become the basis for some uninformed commentaries since yesterday. If President Tinubu is going to the White House, he won’t be going to see a Vice President.”

Ajayi urged Nigerians to disregard the publication, noting that any official engagement between the Nigerian President and the U.S. government would be properly announced through credible and authorized channels.

The Presidential aide’s statement follows growing online speculation that President Tinubu was embarking on a “diplomatic mission” to Washington, D.C. — a claim the Presidency now says is entirely fabricated.

In a related development, Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication, Mr. Daniel Bwala, had earlier stated that both President Tinubu and U.S. President Donald J. Trump share a common interest in the global fight against insurgency and terrorism and could meet “either in Abuja or Washington, D.C., in the coming days.”

Bwala, in a post on X, wrote: “Both President @officialABAT and President @realDonaldTrump have shared interest in the fight against insurgency and all forms of terrorism against humanity. President Trump has assisted Nigeria a lot by authorizing the sale of arms to Nigeria, and President Tinubu has adequately utilized the opportunity in the fight against terrorism, for which we have massive results to show.”

He added that if there are any differences in perception regarding the nature of terrorism in Nigeria — particularly concerning whether extremists target only Christians or all faiths — such matters “would be discussed and resolved by the two leaders when they meet.”

The Presidency’s media team has reiterated that Nigerians should rely solely on official government channels for verified information about the President’s engagements, both local and international.
