Tinubu Reconciles Wike, Fubara, Rivers Assembly Members
President Bola Tinubu on Thursday met behind closed doors with Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike, Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly Martins Amaewhule, and other key lawmakers from the state, in a renewed effort to resolve the ongoing political crisis in Rivers.
According to a report by VANGUARD, the meeting held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, was a reconciliation efforts, as it was the first time Governor Fubara was seen with President Tinubu since the president declared a state of emergency in Rivers on March 18.
During the March declaration, President Tinubu had suspended Governor Fubara, his deputy Mrs. Ngozi Odu, and the Rivers State House of Assembly, citing their inability to collaborate and escalating security challenges across the state.
However, Thursday’s session appeared to signal a breakthrough. Photographs released after the meeting captured the president, the governor, and the FCT minister smiling together, a gesture interpreted by many as a sign of thawing tensions.
Sources within the presidency confirmed that the meeting helped reconcile the warring factions whose dispute had severely disrupted governance in the oil-rich state.
While no official statement was issued after the meeting, insiders described the discussion as “constructive” and “focused on unity, peace, and the restoration of effective governance” in Rivers State.
