Timini Egbuson Opens Up on Pain of Losing Dad
Nollywood actor and filmmaker Timini Egbuson has opened up about the deep emotional pain of losing his father, Samuel Oyindobra Egbuson, and the lingering regret over their strained relationship.
The reflection comes in a rare, emotional conversation about grief and missed reconciliation.
Egbuson, 38, known for his work in film and television and as the brother of actress Dakore EgbusonAkande announced the death of his father in January on Instagram, writing:
“Didn’t think I’ll start the year saying this … Rest in peace Dad. So much left unsaid but I’ll keep making you proud.”
In an emotional interview on the Jay OnAirPodcast, the actor shared how the news of his father’s passing on January 1, 2026 changed everything. He said the loss brought him to a place of grief more intense than anything he’d experienced before, noting that even with his father’s illness, the family had held hope that he would recover.
Compounding the grief was the state of their relationship. Egbuson admitted they “did not have the best of a relationship” and that one of his intentions for 2026 was to repair that bond, a plan now rendered impossible by his father’s death.
“He was sick. But we were hopeful. Honestly, I have never really had to deal with this type of grief before,” he said, recalling the shock of losing someone he had hoped to reconnect with more deeply.
Egbuson described having to return to work shortly after the loss, promoting his latest projects and filming while still “burning inside” with grief. He acknowledged how his earlier work demands in 2025 kept him from being more present, a choice he now deeply regrets.
“I had the opportunities. But last year, I was so swamped with work. I prioritised work so much that I should have been more available. I guess I have to deal with that,” he said, admitting the loss has taught him about balance and presence.
The actor’s candid reflections have resonated with fans and colleagues alike, many of whom have expressed sympathy and support across social media.
