Tekno Reveals He Refunded Over $1 Million After Losing His Voice
Nigerian singer Tekno has revealed that he refunded more than $1 million in performance fees after a serious vocal cord condition forced him to step away from music at the peak of his career.
Speaking on the Afrobeats Intelligence podcast, the singer reflected on the health scare that left him unable to sing for months, describing it as one of the most difficult periods of his life. According to Tekno, he was forced to cancel several international shows and return money already paid to him by event organisers.
“I refunded over $1 million of show money when I lost my voice.”
Tekno explained that the ordeal began after he strained his voice during performances in Ghana and Togo. What initially appeared to be a minor throat problem later developed into a severe vocal cord condition aggravated by acid reflux, forcing him to seek medical treatment in London, Los Angeles, and New York.
After months of unsuccessful treatment, the singer underwent robotic surgery in New York to address the condition. He also underwent extensive vocal therapy before eventually regaining his voice and returning to the stage.
Looking back, Tekno said the experience tested him emotionally and financially but ultimately changed his outlook on health and his music career. He has since resumed performing and releasing music after making a full recovery.
