Senegal Demands Probe into CAF After AFCON Title Stripping

Senegal’s government has called for an international investigation into the Confederation of African Football (CAF) over alleged corruption following the controversial decision to strip the country of its Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title.

The move comes after CAF’s Appeal Board ruled that Senegal forfeited the 2025 AFCON final, awarding a 3–0 victory to Morocco despite Senegal’s earlier 1–0 extra-time win.

Senegalese authorities condemned the ruling as “grossly illegal and profoundly unjust” and demanded an independent probe into what they described as suspected corruption within CAF.

The controversy stems from Senegal’s brief walk-off during the final in protest of a late penalty decision, which CAF later ruled violated tournament regulations.

Senegal’s Football Federation has also rejected the decision, describing it as “unjust and unprecedented,” and confirmed plans to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

Government officials argue that overturning a completed match result undermines the integrity of the game and damages trust in African football governance.

The decision has sparked widespread backlash across the football community, with critics raising concerns about transparency and fairness within CAF’s disciplinary processes.

CAF has yet to issue a detailed response to the allegations.
