Salah, Six Others Nominated for PFA Mens Player of the Year
Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has been named among six players shortlisted for the 2024 Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Men’s Player of the Year award, announced on Friday.
The 33-year-old Egyptian played a pivotal role in Liverpool’s Premier League title-winning campaign last season, finishing with 29 goals and 18 assists.
His impressive contributions also earned him the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year award, securing nearly 90 percent of the votes, the largest winning margin recorded this century. Salah is widely regarded as the frontrunner for the PFA honour.
Joining him on the shortlist is Liverpool teammate Alexis Mac Allister, along with Arsenal’s Declan Rice, Chelsea’s Cole Palmer, Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak, and Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes.
Palmer, who was named the PFA Young Player of the Year for the 2023–24 season, emerged as a surprise nominee given his inconsistent performances during a challenging campaign for Chelsea.
Rice enjoyed a standout season in Arsenal’s midfield, recording a personal best of nine goals and adding 10 assists in 52 appearances across all competitions.
Swedish international Isak netted 23 goals for Newcastle, playing a crucial role in their qualification for the UEFA Champions League and helping the club end a 56-year trophy drought by winning the League Cup.
Despite Manchester United enduring their worst top-flight season since 1973–74, Fernandes remained a bright spot with eight Premier League goals and 10 assists.
This year’s PFA awards ceremony is scheduled to take place in Manchester on August 19.
