Police Recruitment Deadline Extended Over Low Turnout in Some States
The Police Service Commission (PSC) has announced a two-week extension of the ongoing recruitment exercise for 50,000 police constables, following the receipt of over 400,000 applications nationwide.
According to a press release dated January 26, 2026, the application portal, which opened on December 15, 2025, will now close on February 8, 2026, instead of the earlier deadline.
The extension was approved after a review revealed significant disparities in state participation. While states such as Adamawa, Benue and Kaduna recorded high application numbers, others including Lagos, Ogun, Bayelsa, Ebonyi and Anambra showed notably low turnout.
The PSC said the decision was taken to promote equitable national representation in the recruitment process and encouraged eligible Nigerians, particularly from states with low application numbers to apply through the official portal: http://npfapplication.psc.gov.ng.
State governments, local government councils, sociocultural groups, religious organisations and community leaders were also urged to mobilise and sensitise qualified youths within their jurisdictions ahead of the new deadline.
The Commission, in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), reaffirmed its commitment to conducting a fair and transparent recruitment process.
