Governor Oborevwori Postpones Groundbreaking for 12km Okpanam–Ugbolu Road Project
The much-anticipated groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the 12-kilometre Okpanam–Ugbolu Road has been postponed due to heavy rainfall in the area.
Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori was scheduled to perform the ceremony on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, as part of his administration’s efforts to expand road infrastructure and boost connectivity within the Asaba Capital Territory.
However, according to a statement released on Tuesday morning by the Delta State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads and Public Information), Mr. Charles Aniagwu, the event was rescheduled following torrential rain that rendered the venue unsuitable for the flag-off.
Aniagwu conveyed the regrets of the Governor to all invited guests and residents of Okpanam, Ugbolu, and neighbouring communities, assuring them that a new date would be communicated soon.
“The State Government regrets any inconvenience caused by the postponement and assures residents that work on the Okpanam–Ugbolu Road project remains a top priority,” Aniagwu stated.
He emphasized that the project is a critical component of the MORE Agenda of the Oborevwori administration, designed to deliver meaningful development, opportunities for all, realistic reforms, and enhanced peace and security across Delta State.
Earlier, the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, had described the Okpanam–Ugbolu Road project as a major step toward improving road networks, easing traffic congestion, and opening up new economic and residential corridors in the state capital area.
When completed, the 11.725-kilometre road is expected to boost local trade, enhance inter-community access, and promote socio-economic development between Okpanam and Ugbolu, two of the fastest-growing suburban communities around Asaba.
